Ambassador Vahram Kazhoyan Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, participated in the Fourth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development, held in Bangkok from November 1-3, 2023.

Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the UN ESCAP delivered the opening speech.

Ambassador Vahram Kazhoyan, Permanent Representative of Republic of Armenia to the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific delivered a speech on November 1, 2023. Ambassador Kazhoyan specifically emphasized the importance of financial flows, for the development of logistics infrastructure, in order to be able to fully develop its economic potential, and thus ensure sustainable development for Armenia, as a landlocked country. In his statement, Ambassador stressed that only by fulfilling these activities, it will be possible to achieve the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

In his statement, Permanent Representative of Armenia spoke about the aggression of Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh, that was launched after a 10-month-long exhausting blockade. Ambassador Kazhoyan mentioned that as a result of the long-term policy of ethnic cleansing against Nagorno-Karabakh carried out by Azerbaijan, 101,848 citizens, including 30,000 children, had to leave their homeland and places of permanent residence, leaving behind their homes, property and thousand-year-old cultural heritage.

Ambassador Kazhoyan emphasized that the aggression carried out by Azerbaijan is the gross violation of the UN Charter, the fundamental norms of international humanitarian law, as well as the obligations under the Trilateral Statement of November 9, 2020, and the binding Orders of the International Court of Justice.

Vahram Kazhoyan urged the UN development and humanitarian structures to provide support to the forcibly displaced population of Nagorno-Karabakh.

53 members of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and representatives of 9 associated member states, as well as many international organizations attended the fourth session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Development Financing.

The fourth session of the Committee concluded its deliberations on November 3, by adopting the report of the fourth session of the Committee.
